Our Story

Jer and Gia have been married for 19 years. We have 4 children, and 4 grandchildren. We have ventured on many projects together, from home remodeling, dog kennels out of baby cribs, rebuilding car engines, well Jer did that, Gia was emotional support, chicken coops from CAD drawings Jer did to the construction of the coop, electrical work.....you get the idea, I hope.

They share many of the same interests in hobbies and work well together. When Gia started doing some embroidery creations Jer's interest grew in the work. Embroidery opened a door of design and creativity that Jer had already, just with a different medium. Because Jer is mechanically inclined, when the topic of machine repair arose, it seemed like a no brainer to start learning the trade.

Conversations with colleagues, friends and family about how we were thinking of starting a business, led to great interest and support. Jer and Gia were joking around about how Diana was giving them the bug and even more connections started happening. They knew God was at work. It seemed impossible to get what was needed to start this business and ministry that was unfolding before them.

A conversation with Gia's sister and many prayers later, they had what they needed to move forward. Gia here, I was really wanting to honor Diana and my BIL, Kevin in the creation of this venture. Had it not been specifically these 2 people who passed we would not have had the push to do this. Okay back to the point, how do we name the business? Blend Kevin and Diana's name together, that wasn't working so smoothly and nothing felt right. It came to me that we could use their birds, Kevin had a thing for hummingbirds and Diana's was flamingos. Kevin had a sense of humor that, only if you knew him, would you understand, Diana was colorful too. So I am messing around with AI to mash together the words flamingo and hummingbird, don't worry I am going somewhere with this. The word that kept being generated every round I did this was straight from Kevin! Drumroll please, FLAMHUMMER! I just lost it, I was laughing so hard, l tried to convince Jer that we needed to name the business this. Hard no, was the feedback from Jer and our youngest son. So, I named our machine Flamhummer instead.

I digress, the name and the business was created by the both of us. We are  just thrilled to start this business, give back, to create, repair and honor your loved ones. If you've made it this far reading about us, thank you. I hope you can pick up on our excitement and desire to begin on this journey. Hope to connect with you soon!

About Gia

Hi, I am Gia Vana, I go by Gia :) I have a heart for people and their experiences. My desire for sewing has been slowly growing over the years. I do enjoy crafting and creating things, so sewing fell into that category. Diana, a close friend of minewas a great quilter. She enjoyed teaching others these skills and was thrilled when I asked her if she would teach me how to sew. This turned into her giving me some of her machines, so I had the ability to dabble in new projects on my own. Diana was an inspiration, especially after her long battle with cancer and how she continued to give her time and talent to the Interfaith Quilters Guild until she passed. As a result, I wanted to honor her work in my own way. Within a 9-month period not only did we lose Diana, but we also had 2 family members who passed suddenly to cancer. My sister asked me if I knew of a company that did T-shirt memory quilts, but I told her that I would do it. With some hesitancy, because I had never done this before, but she agreed! This led to the crafting of memory T-shirt quilts for my sister and niece. I was able to take the , digitize the handwriting of my brother-in-law and embroider this on the quilts. I feel God has given me the desire in my heart to serve others in their time of loss with a meaningful and tangible memorial item that can passed from generation to generation.

About Jer

HI, I am Jeremy, I go by Jer :) I am an engineer and a machinist. I have a deep appreciation for machinery and computer programming. I found that I love the art of digitizing! It reminds me of running CAD software, which is one of my favorite parts of engineering and machining. I have a very mechanical mindset, so it seemed perfect for me to also service machines. Though, when Gia told me that our serger needed to be serviced, she found a video online, as the technician removed the upper thread guide cover, I said "NOPE"! I went back and watched that video again after I decided to add machine service to our business, and I felt differently about it. After digging into it a bit more, it wasn't as complicated as I thought. Lots of moving parts for sure, but a definite order to how it's put together. I appreciate the engineering that went into making it work as it does. I love all of the intricate parts that make up the movement of sewing machines. I still have my grandma's old Singer treadle cabinet machine that she had rebuilt when I was young. I remember how happy she was when it came back from the shop, all renewed. With my machining background, I can bring some of these old machines that parts are unavailable for back to life!
